The Cartel Strikes Back
We're getting really close, amigos.
The publication date for The Cartel Strikes Back is tis Friday, Oct. 28th. Be sure to get your copy right away.
This book has taken much longer than normal because life gets in the way. We did a major refitting project on the Victory and spent four months living in the jungle in Panama.
If you've been following my blog, you know the Panama story. There was no Internet connection, so I had problems trying to work.
If you don't know, there's a lot more to writing a book than just putting words on a page. First, there is usually several weeks worth of research so that you know what you're writing about. Then there is the actual writing.
If you're lucky, you have a good writers group and they help you round off the rough edges.
When you're done, it goes to several beta readers. When you get their feedback, it's time for re-write number 1.
After you've got your first re-write, you send the book off to the editor. While you're waiting to hear back from the editor, you go to work with the cover designer.
Re-write number 2 comes when you get the editor's report. After this, you send out Advance Review Copies to selected individuals who promise to post a review on the first day the book is available.
At the same time, you send the book to the proof-reader. When you have feedback from the ARC readers and proof-reader, you go on to re-write number 3.
Now it's time to format your book and upload it to Amazon. They create a .mobi file so that you can read it on Kindle and publish the book.
The total cost I incur to publish a book is usually around $1500. I need to sell quite a few books to get back my investment. If you like supporting independent authors, tell all your friends about my new book.
Welcome to web site. This is where I can keep you updated with what's going on in my world. I'd love to hear from you. Is there something you'd like to see? Do you have an idea for one of my books? Use the Contact Penn page to send me a note.
In these pages, I'll share travel stories, short stories, insider info and sailing adventures (maybe that should be misadventures) with you. I'll keep you updated on my appearances and let you know about new things coming down the pike.
Be sure to check out my Blog link. I'll be keeping you updated on my thoughts and activities on a regular basis. One of my blog postings, the "Great Dane on Board" series, was so popular that I've included the whole thing on this web site. The highlight of the series is Dawn's video of "Odin's Adventures." You can't miss it.
I've also saved the logs of my trip down the Pacific Coast from Seattle to La Paz, Mexico. If you're interested in our shipwreck at Abreojos, Mexico, go to the Disaster at Sea 2012 page of Penn's Adventures.
Let's be honest, I would like for you to buy my books, but I also want to share a little about my life with you, maybe build a personal relationship. I will be adding short stories and other freebies for friends and fans of my writing. Stay tuned.
Use the Contact Penn form to send me your questions and comments. I'll answer all e-mails, complementary and critical, personally. The most asked questions will go onto the Q&A page.
Bienvenidos to my life. I hope you'll keep coming back.
